Human history is full of war, murder, inequality, and countless other tragedies. The capacity
of humans to exploit and destroy each other seems boundless. For many of us, this constant war that humankind wages against itself is utterly maddening and painfully heartbreaking. The past few years have seen no respite from such madness. Whether it’s the never ending Palestinian and Israeli conflict, the murders of Michael Brown in Ferguson and Freddie Gray in Baltimore among countless others nationwide by violent police officers abusing their power, the recorded executions by ISIS that are reminiscent of the Dark Ages, the sadistic Charleston shootings fueled by extreme prejudice and hatred, the increasing amount of savage gun violence that infects this country in general, or any number of other horrors that humans are doing to each other all over the world; it’s more than enough to keep us sad, frustrated, angry, and constantly on the verge of tears.

Constantly on the Verge of Tears was written for violinist Nicole Parks and percussionist Michael Hardin. It was composed during July of 2015.
